Artist Statement

In painting I have found purposeful action.
Creating gives me a way to be.
I want to give the viewer an opportunity to find some enjoyment through the images.

I find inspiration from many sources. A sight, a dream, an idea. The ones that hit you like a brick are the best. As I came to realize I cannot be an old master and as I have a cartoon mind, I am learning to let my work become what it must be. I usually start with a quick sketch or two, but mainly work directly on the canvas and freely move things about until the composition suits me. In nature I see the large and the small, the plain and the intricate. I incorporate some of that whenever I can.

I believe the reality of things lies not in appearance but in an underlying essence. I like to impart lessons or fables sometimes,
and I think these also have an essence of their own. I am trying to find my vision into that essential quality of form and idea.
